Elena Atrián

I received my BSc degree in Chemistry in 2011 and my MSc degree in Chemical Research in 2012, both from University of Zaragoza. I received my PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the Universidad de Zaragoza in 2015, having worked under the supervision of Prof. M. Laguna and Dr. E. Cerrada. After my PhD, I joined the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination (LCC), France where I worked for 3 years as a post-doctoral researcher of the ERC Starting project, aLzINK, awarded to Dr. C. Hureau. During these three years I did research on the interaction of metal ions, mainly Cu & Zn, with the amyloid-β peptide implicated in Alzheimer’s disease and how they influence the aggregation and ROS production of the peptide.

I have joined the BioNanoSurf group in June 2019 as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow (MSCA-IF ID: 845427, PePiPOM). This is a multidisciplinary project which aims to develop POM-hybrids, by combination of polyoxometalates and antimicrobial peptides, with an expected synergistic biofilm disruption and antimicrobial activities. These new hybrids will serve as preventive or treatment coatings of different materials and surfaces.
